Ways in which we will help would-be entrepreneurs with disability

The mission of the platform is to establish, nurture and support a community of practice in the disability entrepreneurship space.  The goal is after six months of paid membership individuals will have made substantive progress towards establishing their money-generating endeavour.  To this end, the platform will assist would-be entrepreneurs with a suite of complementary services.  These are summarised below.

(i) A resource library.

(ii) Monthly webinars.

(iii) The learning space.

(iv) The ‘Ask the crowd’ discussion board.

(v) The ‘By the creek’ video library.

(vi) A monthly blog and quarterly newsletter.

All Australians with disability, their carers and others with an established connection to disability in Australia can join the platform for free – https://enabled.vip/login-register/.  Paid membership of the platform costs $10 per month.

All members of the platform (free and paid) can purchase a one hour one-to-one disability entrepreneurship advisory support for $63.17.  This session will be via video meeting or by phone.

Platform fees are billable to an NDIS plan for people with a Plan Managed or Self-Managed Plan.  We are in the process of seeking NDIA registration so that it will then become billable to plans that are Agency Managed.  Contact us at enqui[email protected] or via phone on 0436480769 to discuss  billing.

Capacity building modules

Griffith University (specifically the Griffith Business School) is creating a set of online capacity-building modules for use by the platform.  These will be self-paced internet professional development resources covering essential skills for Australians setting up and operating a money-generating endeavour.  Example modules include creating and growing your brand, pitching for work, and lean endeavours.

The modules will include recorded talks, suggested reading, videos and participant tasks.   @Naomi Birdthistle is producing these modules, they are fantastic, and we really appreciate her hard work.  There may be workshops next year associated with these modules.  The capacity-building modules will be a component of the platform.  The goal is to assist members to feel more confident in their skills and readiness to establish their endeavour so that it will be successful, sustainable (in both senses of the word) and resilient.

The modules include a recorded talk, video content, websites, reading material and exercises.  Access to the modules is free for members of our platform.  In 2023, we will commence holding online workshops associated with the modules.

Some terrific conversations and meetings

Flowing from our fantastic and well attended launch, we are having a number of meetings and conversations.  These are with the NDIA, plan managers, MS Queensland and Australians with disability.  It makes for frenetic days, but this is an affirming and energising time.

Do you know an Australian with disability who wants to explore generating a bit more money?  Please encourage them to complete the short form below.  Or they can contact us on [email protected] or 0436 480 769 if they have any questions.

Membership of the platform costs $10/month or $110 for 12 months.  One hour of one-to-one disability entrepreneurship  advice/support costs $62.17. NDIS item 04_104_0125_6_1.

Are we worth it?

A question we are sometimes asked is whether the membership, renewal and mentoring is worth the money we charge ($10/month or $110 for 12 months).  We thought it worthwhile including a post about this topic in the platform’s newsfeed.  The first thing to say is that the platform combines around 100 years of money-generating expertise, including growing a hobby into a side hustle, into a national company and into an international consultancy firm.

The one-to-one disability entrepreneurship  advisory support will be provided by a combination of business expertise and disability lived experience.  Each session will involve around one hour preparation time and 30 minutes post session of work.  The market rate for this time is much higher than we charge, but it is in accordance with the NDIS Price Guide.

A new item is added to our Resource Library generally around seven times each week.  It is a curated library of useful, practical and helpful tips, ideas and good practice. Paid members get access to exclusive resource sheets and template documents. There will be a new blog item monthly, as well a new webinar every month. We are currently adding new capacity building modules, thanks to the generous support of Griffith University.

Membership of the platform includes access to our capacity-building modules, developed by world-class academics in the business field.  It also provides access to our monthly blog and webinars (including advice from a NDIS expert).  Members will also have a free stall in The BAZAAR.

In short, we not only think that we are worth it, we think members will get a lot of expert support for very little money.

A new costing structure and the NDIA

Based on his work with the incredible Renee Baines of Blossom Consultants, we are currently updating our website to reflect a new cost structure.  This will better reflect the policies and price guide of the NDIA.

Work on more modules

Thanks to the further injection of funding (more on that later), work has begun on more capacity-building modules that will be amongst the complementary online services and supports that the platform will provide to paying members.  We recently saw an update about these modules and they look fantastic!  Thank you Naomi Birdthistle and the GBS team for your work on this.  They are looking incredibly polished and professional.

The mission of the platform will be to create, nurture and support a community of practice in the Australian disability entrepreneurship space.  The goal for each member is that after six months of us working with them, they will have made substantive progress towards establishing their money-generating endeavour.  The platform will support individuals to monetise a hobby/craft, establish a gig-based nano or micro business, or establish a small business.
