Reflecting on a discussion at a Mindhive event

Head shot pleasant young dumb woman communicating nonverbal with deaf middle aged lady, sitting together on couch. Smiling impaired disabled two generations family using sign language at home.

On Tuesday, Gary attended the extremely interesting, Solving the NFP Futures Challenge Part 3 with Allan English online tank.  It was hosted by Mindhive and sponsored by BDO.

It was incredibly thought-provoking.  We are so new to the space and the other attendees were so august, Gary wasn’t game to say anything but after a night of rumination, he wished he had.

One topic discussed was the likely positive impact for the sector if Australia was to introduce a UBI.  It would be a game-changer for Enabled.vip and disability entrepreneurship.  People having access to a UBI would help folk with their membership payments (especially if they don’t qualify for an NDIS plan). It would also help with us recruiting volunteers (e.g. experienced folk willing and having time to be a mentor). Perhaps most significantly, a UBI replacing welfare would mean individuals could set up and work to grow their endeavour, without worrying about how that might impact on government payments.

Thanks, @Bruce Muirhead and @Rene Plamenac for setting up the event.
