On Tuesday 29th March Gary attended a community event for the commencement of Reimagining Disability: Griffith Inclusive Futures. Apparently, we shouldn’t refer to it as a beacon, though the concept is shining a light on a social problem or matter requiring research and other academic attention.
It was a great event where Gary had a chance to talk about disability entrepreneurship and the plans for the platform. It was a wonderful chance to network and to hear the exciting ideas that are driving GIF.
Gary was interviewed on camera to talk about disability entrepreneurship and the platform. In addition to hopefully this being of use to GIF, we can see how it can be useful for us and the platform.
Processes are underway for the platform to formally become a social/commercial spin-off from the GIF. Which is incredibly exciting and may open some doors to some terrific opportunities.
There are exciting synergies between the Griffith Inclusive Futures beacon and the platform. We are really looking forward to the opportunity to work together and to fuel disability entrepreneurship in Australia. We passionately believe disability doesn’t have to limit potential or contribution, but ignorance and isolation can, if we let it.
Our hope is to create, nurture and support a community of practice in the Australian disability entrepreneurship space. This doesn’t only have massive potential for individual disabled Australians, as well as their families, we believe it could be a massive benefit for the wider community and the Australian economy.
Our immediate goal is to support 1,000 Australians to pursue their entrepreneurship goals and potential, but after that we have more than half an eye on the 2.1 million Australians who live with a disability who are of working age.
The day was incredibly exciting and it was impossible to leave without anything other than high hopes for the road ahead.
