In collaboration with his long term friend, Dr Mark Israel, he turned a hobby into a side hustle business and then with another old friend, Prof. Colin Thomson AM established a company, AHRECS.  This grew to the point of being one of the lead Australian consultancy firms in the Human Research Ethics and Research Integrity spheres.  In the last 12 months, AHRECS has been conducting consultancy work in New Zealand, the UK, Kazakstan and across Asia.

Gary is an ambassador of The Hopkins Centre (Griffith University and the PAH), was formerly a disabled member of the ethics committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council.  He has also served as ambassador of and political advisor for MS Queensland.

A few years ago, Gary became convinced that disability entrepreneurship could be a powerful positive value for Australians who live with a disability.  Wanting to pay his experiences and skills forward, along with a former colleague they established Enabled.vip.

Gary is an Apple fanboi, a scifi fan, is trying to learn Welsh and trying to balance Griffith University, AHRECS and Enabled.vip.

Disability doesn’t have to limit potential or contribution, but prejudice and isolation can, if we let them.
