Varied career paths and life experience have all contributed to the person he is, the skills in his toolbox and motivation by helping others and finding solutions to challenges. He has a long connection with disability, having volunteered with community disability groups in his teens and early 20’s, having a beautiful daughter with cerebral palsy and intellectual impairment who is now in her 20’s and operating his own business as a disability support provider for the past 3 years.
He is a strong believer in adherence to standards and quality work output, whilst always looking for a better way to do things. Over many years, across several industries he has found that solutions are not always where everyone thinks; everything is not as simple as black and white and people don’t always fit in neat boxes or categories. Solutions are frequently found in that area of ‘grey’ and from ‘thinking outside the box’.
He has worked in several seemingly disconnected industries over the years, but with hindsight, all have progressed to each other almost seamlessly despite what felt like complete change at the time. He started work in his hometown of Cairns in the local library, then the oldest book shop in town in the ‘good old days’ of bookselling. After several years as an owner-operator Taxi driver, he returned to the book trade as a regional sales representative for some of the biggest publishers in the country. A redundancy there led to a career change and the start of the IT path, first through Australia’s biggest telco, then with a couple of international companies providing integrated network and media solutions to the hospitality industry. This led him to visit, design and build complex networks in some of the biggest hotels and resorts around Southeast Asia, Australasia and even Hawaii. This led him to become a wireless network specialist and trouble-shooter, working for a US-based world-leading Wi-Fi manufacturer.
Another redundancy led to career sea change 3 years ago when John setup a small business, JB Support Solutions 4 You, providing disability support care for clients around Brisbane. In doing so, he discovered an unforeseen synergy between his previous experience in customer solution provision, technology integration and supporting people living with disabilities. It was in this capacity that he first met Gary Allen and was introduced to the Enabled.vip platform.
John has helped Gary and the Enabled.vip team in the recent past with backend processes, technical advice and solutions, and like Gary he is a bit of a workaholic. So after several years of what started as a hobby as a First Aider for local Rugby League clubs and community organisations, a couple of years ago this progressed to a side-hustle with a few paid gigs. Last year he registered another small business, JB Medic and Sports Trainer, which he operates in his ‘spare’ time whilst continuing his studies towards becoming an Emergency Medical Technician. This experience has also been invaluable within his work in the disability sector.
Who knows where this will all lead but he has a strong connection with, and commitment to helping the Enabled.vip platform on its way to helping those with a disability to also develop their entrepreneurial aspirations.
